Well, here's my BR for the Halo 2: Source mod, wanted to see what you guys think.
THIS:

...is the main thing that was keeping me from making the BR recently. Yes, that's my Marine Ops mod.
This:

... is the ripped Halo 2 BR model I'm using as a sort of frame to build around. The result:

(orange is the ref, purple is stuff I did)
Should be done very, very soon. Polycount is nice and low, but it has plenty of detail, of course.
Like it?

You can render my M16A1 as a warm up. Should have a bit more done soon, my pretties, don't worry!
[EDIT]
Updates (yellow is ripped ref, red was the first bit I did, then purple, then blue, and then green):

you are converting Halo 2 into Source? Doesn't that mean you can't use ripped models.

I'm not using ripped models to put into the game, I'm using the ripped model as a reference to make my own. I'll take it as a compliment that you couldn't tell the difference...
Basically I build my model over the ripped one, and as each section is done I delete that part of the ripped model.

I'd still kind of take that as ripping. That's like using tracing paper over the Mona Lisa and calling it your own. (That's right, the Halo 2 BR is the in-game equivelant of the Mona Lisa, you heard it from me)

Exactly. It is really not that hard to model based on renders on screenshots. I fully modeled a h2 turret and brute shot before h2 even came out. I did this by looking at two renders. Now there are tons of renders and screenshots lying around the net, making the modeling h2 models very easy.

True, but it's much easier to get things exactly right with the reference model. And besides, mine already has more detail, as can be seen on the grip and stock, and also the scope knobs. When I'm done, it'll retain the same general shape as the original, but it will be FAR more detailed.

i don't see how it's any more detailed... it looks like er... yeah... you are using cylinders that have more sides... that doesn't make it any better. in fact, it's not as efficient to use higher poly cylinders vs. lower poly. you've not added more detail than the original that i can see makes a difference. but, yes, you have done a good job of replicating.

I also chamfered the grip and stock, and I'll probably be making an actual indent for the ejection port and cocking lever, and also maybe all the little triangles along the side.

That looks pretty cool, but I dont respect the fact that you just trace over and can call it you own, what is the fun of that?

I ain't doing it for fun, I'm doing it for a mod. That's why I want extreme accuracy to the original (but with my little additions, of course). My M16, MP5, etc. were made mainly for fun and also for mod projects where accuracy wasn't as high a priority.
