You will experience only the change in weapons, physics, physical things like that. You will not see any skins or anything you will see the default. Also if you do not have the mods installed you will experience some lag if the server is not fast enough. I hosted modded games but not only does my provider suck with upload speeds, after 4 people they said the lag started to occur. Don't give up with the tutorials, you will get it going.
