Maya 5.0 help

I extract a banshee model, I open it n Mya, I spend 2 hours modelling it, thain what happens? I CLICK SAVE AND IT SAIS UNSUPPORTED FILE FORMAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WHYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!

whenu just save it does this and not when ur exporting?
