(pictures will come later)
to make halo 2 models easily on 3dsmax you will need the bsp extracter made by yomma, 3dsmax, ch2r, .dds plugin,a halo 2 map from the xbox, and photoshop.
first open up the map in the bsp exractor (do not use mainmenu or shared.map they are not playable maps)
then press the extract button.
the bsp extractor will do it's thing and when you see "initializing 3d window" you can exit out.
open up max (unless you have found a way to use yomma's .obj merrger read this) and import all of the .obj structures. then once they are all in the scene, merge the objects together and flip the faces that need to be flipped.
open up ch2r the open up the map file that has the bsp that you extracted. go to the tags folder and then to the bitmaps folder. (like HMT)
then extract every bitmap and it's corresponding bumpmap. once done open up pohtoshop (or psp, but i prefer photoshop).
go through all the images and resize them to be 512X512. then savd the .dds as (name)1.0.dds>DTX3 (EXPLICIT ALPHA).
for the bumps :
press ctrl+4 to go to your alpha channel then ctrl+a to control all then press ctrl+c to copy en ctrl+~ to go tothe RGB channel then ctrl+v to paste. now flaten your image. and when you save your bumpmaps save it as (name)1.0.dds>DTX1 (NO ALPHA)
reopen all of the files we edited and save as a .tif image.
back to 3dsmax:
apply all your materials the way you would normally do it for a halo 1 map and this time, in your material's editor, go to your maps pulldown and change your bumps to 100% and insert the bumpmaps we made.
now go throught the rest as if you wer making the map you normally would
i hope this helps out those halo2-aholics happy extracting and texturing!
*you might need to construct a sky for your model i know i did.
*some maps mightn not run entirely in the bsp extractor. i cant help you ther ask yomma
*feel free to ask questions (hopefully a guru will come around and answer them.
