im sure there is but if u ever plan to do any artwork on the computer then u might want to know photoshop some, at least paintshop just to know the basics, u can always get the demo of both.

Every graphic design program has a steep learning curve, but I'd say its no more difficult than learning photoshop.

for a free program, i couldnt imagine that it has near as much power and that the learning curve is close to it, for the basic stuff im sure it is but to know the hole program ps will be steeper, but for skinning for halo, alot of the basics is what ull be using.

Ah my friend, you should atleast check out GIMP before you begin posting about it not being nearly as powerful. Sometimes my friend open source software is FAR FAR more powerful than proprietary, simply due to the fact that end-users (us) can contribute alot more to the development of an open source application than to a proprietary application. GIMP is one case of this. Its VERY VERY powerful and there are tons upon tons of free, user submitted Filters to be downloaded.

well ill have to check it out thanks for the info, i simply said that because my experience in the past with free or cheap programs (milkshape, gmax, wings 3d) have not even compared to the ones that do not have such a generous price range (3d max, maya, lightwave, xsi softimage, etc)
