Hey guys i am looking into modeling and wanting to make 3d models for when prometheus comes out for halo2 i can make a map. Anyway i would think i need a 3d graphics card to do this right? If so whats a nice one to do modeling on. I don't have a lotta money so i wanna go as cheap as i can but still have ok quality models(if i must have a 3d card). Since this is 3d modeling i am assuming i will need a 3d card.

Anyway i have read about people using milkshape and 3dsmax and things of that nature. Can someone point me to one thats n00b friendly or something that has lots of tutorials to learn on.

Thanks a mil guys :D

Milkshape = no, but its a good start, you cant do much with it... Otherwise Gmax and 3DS MAX is probably the way to go.

Ok, you talk about using a graphics card but jump right into assumptions about programs, so I'm a bit confused. However, even onboard graphics nowadays should be sufficient. Alternately, something as old as a Radeon 9000 would work fine. My suggestion would be that while you may have to use Gmax for final outfitting and export, do your actual modeling in Blender (blender3d.org). Blender is completely free, very powerful, and very straightforward and easy to learn.

Well the plugins for HAlo just work in 3ds max and gmax. You could export as .obj and import into gmax and export as halo file BUT when you export in obj you get so crappy mmodel in 3ds max when you export from Blender dunno why.Gmax is also free.
3ds max 7 trial>GMAX and then other programs

THAT ^ was confusing. No, .obj doesn't export right from Blender. Use VRML 2.0, it works perfectly. There's also a variety of formats and scripts to use for export, including perhaps the native formats that 3ds Max and Gmax use.
