problems with animated scenery (elevators)

ok im running into some problems and i need some help.

for me at least, when i make an elevator go up rly high rly quickly, it has to take a step of lets say 10 units up every frame. in-game, this would cause it to go so fast that you cant jump on, because the elevator would jump through u too quickly. if you make it change just a little every frame, then theres no problem. but its when you want to go up a long way without taking forever.

im guessing this is caused by the engine seeing such big jumps per frame and deciding to make u fall through instead of going up with it. when it goes up slower, or has less of a jump per frame, the engine will move you up as the elevator goes up.

what i want to know is a way to get rid of this problem. i tried seeing if i could increase the amount of location samples, or basically getting more frames to say where it is, so theres less of a jump between frames. but i couldnt find a way to do that. another idea i just thought of is do you need to have a slower acceleration to be able to stay on? maybe if it starts slow and then eventually gets to the max speed, then it will let you stay on?

ok well thats enough from me for now. i hope someone has an aswer or at least a clue as to how to get this problem out of the way

thanks :)

i think when you right click on the clock in 3ds max in the lower corner you canm choose 1/2X so its half the speed or you can go slower or quicker

That information I doubt will actually be exported and work with halo. If you want to slow it down simply add more frames and move the animation segment(s) accross to make it longer.

sweet ill try that. thanks pat

and sonictag, i dont want to slow it down, i just want to add more frames per second.

[edit] ok well i just tried changing the playback speed to 2x and making the animation have 2x the frames. this would make it go the same speed, but between each frame the object would move less.

but anyways, id didnt seem to work :(

i also tried changing the fps in 3dsmax to custom at 60... didnt work

any more suggestions?

make it 500 frames so its slower but don't forget to redo the animtion
