ok, i've been working on a halo 2 masterchief model in 3ds max and I am attempting to make him look as real as possible but i just can't get the dang visor to look good.
I was using the bitmap for his visor named mirror_surface.dds

Image

located using ch2r in the objects\bitmaps\reflection_maps folder in mainmenu.map which looks like this:

now don't get me wrong, these do look good, especially when there is something to reflect, but they are actually the reflection from a window on the space station from the cairo level.
I laughed when i figured that out too. Anyway, I found the correct bitmap (masterchief_visor.dds) using ch2r in objects\bitmaps\reflection_maps in the 00a_introduction.map,
which looks like this:

The end result should look like this:

but actually looks like this:

As you can see, the correct bitmap for the visor does not generate the desired "authenticity" of the halo 2 masterchief. Does anybody know how to make the visor look real (authentic)?

you have to make this a pff file so people can play as the halo 2 master chief in halo 1

that would make you like the greates modder
a lot of people want to do that

no one has it on their pc, they mod their xboxes so they can import models from it onto their pc.

it would be illegal to give you the model, but there are some nifty tutorials. This is not that advanced but it will give you the general idea. Also i'm assuming you have a modded xbox and can ftp the map files from the halo 2 disk to your hard drive. I soft-modded my xbox (no mod chip) which means it's completely free. It does everything a modded xbox deos and more. Of course there is no toggle switch so i have 2 other xbox's as well (one for my brother). anyway, go to http://www.xbox-scene.com/ to learn how to softmod

ps, and i do think they use the hdri technique, thanks

Sorry for the bump and i think you already figured this out, but as a reflection map, put a raytrace map with the bitmap and put it on 70. Also, put the specular up ;)

Try HDRI lighting the whole scene, much more realistic plus the reflections will be amazing.
