very nice job with the optimization, Katarn.
Can't waitfor the finished product.

optimize, what's that? My barrel is like 16 sides.

whatever, you know what i mean, just re-read it. And re-read it. And re-read it, about until it is what i meant.
Optimize as in watching the polygons. If i tried that, i swear, mine woud be around 26,000

Perfect.
Yes, i weld a lot, but I just have flat out issues in every field.
Until about a month ago, i never used plane modeling

Thanks. Now I have to open up another window and google it. Grrr.
[EDIT]: Very nice gun there. Good model.

thank you. I'm planning for ~6000 when done. It shouldn't be too hard to accomplish as i don't have much left.

Will it go into anything?

Awesome
Still curious how you acheive those nice holes without booleans... How do you line them up so perfectly vertex-by-vertex? Or do you do something different?

He probably manuvers a camera over the angle to line them up. Or at least that's how I would do it if I didn't use boolean.

Ok, first off if you use boolean for this, lining them up is simple with using the array tools.
With my knowledge of katarn and his wonderful world of modeling he would simply cut them, and since he has a picture in the background he can simply cut to what they look like on that and they will be correct.

actually, they are mathematically correct, not done by eye. They are aligned by eye tho.
1. Make a box, chamer the edges, delete all faces, except for the front face (facing left viewport).
2. duplicate them (i use array) to the picture specifications (where the holes are).
3. attach the faces to the object.
4. create the planar face including the faces made from the boxes.
5. Delete the boxes face on the planar face.
6. intrude, extrude, bevel, whatever, i'll make a picture tutorial (mb vid tutorial on this) later, if you couldn't understand this.
