multipost, consider this a casual warning, don't do it again (posting twice in a row is my meaning). Edit the post if you have something else to say.

Katarn would say a waste of polygons and i would agree

The gun doesn't really appeal to me personally, to much like a long metal stick. It is quite high poly when it comes to the tubular parts. Try a simple 14-gon for the tubular parts. You won't really notice the corners if you slap a skin on it and put it in First person. Bungie really pulls some doozies when it comes to gun barrels in Halo's 1 and 2.
The RL in Halo one only had 8 sides on the barrels and had such a great skin you would not notice the polygonal-ness of it unless you looked for it. The BR's barrel in Halo 2 was also 8 sides and was quite hard to tell as not being cicular.

soccerbummer, spend more than 45 minutes on a model (at least 6 hours) Less models that aren't crap = good. You obviously have some skll if you are able to make things quickly, but that doesn't mean you don't have to pump pieces of crap every 45 minutes.
Not to sound mean or biased, just my 2 cents.

well i only hace room for more advanced advice like a dollar not 2 cents... well anyways i said i ahd only worked on it for 45 min, most of my good models take me 6hours and even weeks doing all of the touch ups. for instance i have a wheel that tas tread on it took me 2 weeks has a polly count of 40000 its all model no bump. for models that go into halo the model dosnt have to look great or even decsent because all the crappyness of the model is covered up by all of the bump mapping and the such. pluss i could do alot better but i didnt feel like it today. i just made thes cause i was bored and it looked like an easy quick thing to do and it was. and if your going to say my models are crap lemme see an FRG, a carbine, Abr, an smg, a h2 sniper, a beam rifle, a plasma sword, (not yet released) an atv, this sniper model type, a brute shot, or actualy anything youve amde that took you under 7 hours that is better than what i can do in 5
the sniper in the last post i have been workin on it for 3 hours and it s done all of my h2 models took me an average of 7 hours. oh and for the challenge beet my rims just pm me w a pic of your best and ill post a pic of mine and yours and see who here thinks is the better . polly limit is 8000

No offense, but mine has FAR more detail and only 4,800 polies AND it only took a few hours. You should really try a different form of modelling and stop smoothing so much. And I wouldn't be mouthing off to Katarn as a) he's a moderator and b) he is the best modeller I know and easily the best on the site. You should actually pay attention to any advice he gives you, or face being humiliated as he posts a model so lifelike you'd swear it was a photo.
And even I could make a good, really detailed wheel in 2 weeks. Probably with less polies too. But before you go say "well prove it then", I can't because I have no time between the 5 assessment tasks I have due this week. Ask Katarn to, then you'll see. Compared to what I have seen out of other people here, you are a beginner who uses to smooth button FAR too much and is over-confident in their ability to model. Don't tkae this the wrong way; it's my honest opinion.
Seriously, stop being so stuck up.

ok now tell ne like show me pics w circles around them that besides the smoothing whats whorng and why these arnt close.

You obviously can't see very well if you can't tell the difference.

What are you talking about? Katarn isn't spamming. He's well on topic with everything he's saying.

I never said it sucked, just that you could have put more effort into it. And I find that spline modelling gives better results than using cylinders and boxes and then smoothing the hell out of it. And if you read my post properly, you'd know that I knew you were talking to Katarn. Your models are OK, you just smooth them far too much.
