I recently got photoshop CS 8.o trial, and I'm going to start getting into skinning for Halo. But, I don't know what i'm doing or how to make anything. I mostly want to make skins for maps and stuff. So if someone could find or make some tutorials that would be REALLY helpful. I haven't even figured out how to get the drawing window up to draw on!

Yeah, thanks Pie, (and katarn). I ahve a question though, how do I make the cursor bigger? Cus the abtteries are going to run out of my mouse before I get this thing covered... and is there a way to make the brush show up over the color in the picture? I can never find it and ahve to fuck around all the time to figure out where I am with it...

contrast and brightness, go to image>adjustments>brightness and contrast
Layers are exactly what they sound to be, layers, something in foreground is the top layer
dodge is that magnifying glass on the toolbar, if it isn't there, it might be a hand of some sort, click and hold on it, and select the magnifying glass for dodge

I was reading through those skinning tutorials, and I can really see how they would be hard to follow for somebody who doesn't know much about Photoshop. His tutorials assume that you're an intermediate Photoshopper, so here are some tutorials that you may find helpful:

If you look in the layers box you'll see all the layers in the pic. The one at the top of the list is the top layer and the bottom of list has the bottom layer.
If you right-click dodge (the black magnifying glass in the toolbar) you'll see burn and sponge. You'll use dodge and burn alot. And yea, thetaco is right, learn a bit more about the program before you try those skinning tutorials katarn posted.
