WIP: sludge (not sure about the name..)

i had a random burt of creativity last night after weeks of just working on conversions and such. i spent about 4 or 5 hours modeling what i have now, and so far i think its pretty good. its only about 35% done or so... the idea for the map is to have some sort of strange facility underground in a sewage system. it will have 2 very clean looking labs and then a place under it where there are pools of green sludge stuff. so far i just have some of the lower areas done.


the main room in the lower part. its basically the middle of the map.

im hoping to have this map mostly done soon, considering im on spring break this week. any suggestions, constructive criticism, or comments would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like a real halo map that I would go and play that actually came with halo single player!

u know ur right it does, kindof like a processing plant or somethin on halo. now that is cool, get some custom stuff in it and this could be a good map :D

Not bad. Actually Not bad at all. and its only 35% done. daaaaaaaaaamn i hope this goes through to the 100%.

haha wow thanks all you. i guess going through multiplayer and SP maps and redoing them has gotten me to make maps like them. one thing that i have noticed that some of the maps have is just stuff. what i mean is it has random stuff like the inset lights which make them look like theyre supposed to be there. also, on the pathways in that big room, the bottoms are slanted inwards.

right now im working on the hq part of the lab. theres also gonna be an experimentation room attatched to it. that room will have some crazy purple lighting and prolly some jars of colored gross stuff. im not sure what kind of strange things this lab will be working on, but ill think of it later

You should make a custom gun (lightning projectile maybe?) and have it on a stand in the lab. like a chief experiment

oook so this map is going swimmingly. well. kinda. ive got prolly about 50% or so of the level geometry done now. ive also started on a custom gun, but ill admit, im not the greatest at making guns. :?

but heres some stuff!

the gun... yea dont say it... im gonna make it better later.

the gun is gonna shoot green stuff. i might make the projectile a green blob later so it looks like its shooting the sludge stuff.

OH NO! yea i had a problem while testing out part of my map. looks like a flashback to pre-PMI days of modding. you know... when the models would go crazy? yea...

not only that, but parts of the level have no texture all of a sudden and some parts just screw up, like this one, which looks like it got screwed up with lightmaps

thats a pretty good looking map, i could do some gun models, if i got someone outside of this community to skin them.

what happens when you come in contact with the sludgeyness? death? health? slowness? or a secret weapon or a secret room underneath the fillth? and awesome......hope i can beta...

well when u fall into the sludge... u basically fall to ur death.

i guess i could make it like its shallow, but walking in it hurts you. it would be a lot of scenery objects that hurt you, but hey might make for a good effect. ooh or i could maybe pull off the slowness idea. hmm...

and oh yea... i need to remember to add some secret stuff :D

lol katarn i got it...

just looked at some of ur stuff on that page and i gotta say its very nice. right now for textures ive been going through all the ones supplied by hek. mostly im using ones from b30 (forgot what level that was) and a10.

unfortunately im running out of good ones now that ive started on the laboratory areas.... but katarn just pm me if youve got some stuff or w/e

*bump* hows this map going?...

oh yea im making it. and is it ok if you bump a topic if its ur own? well w/e, ive got some new pics and i dont wanna make a new topic. work on this has kinda slowed down, considering i made the first few pics in like 2 or 3 days. now that spring break is over, it has slowed down. BUT, that means more time to think about what to make for it. ive been working on completing the basic layout of the map, and heres what its shaping up to look like.

this is the main part of the lab thats underground. it also acts as a main base, as there are two of them in the map. textures might change soon, as i'm trying to get the feel of a place that was emptied out quickly for some unknown reason...

this is one of the center areas where i expect a lot of fighting will take place it. i wanted it to be simple, yet useful. it has 4 sewage pipes leading out of the sides and a pathway at the other ends. from here, you can get to each base pretty directly.

out of the 4 pipes in that last room, only 2 of them are open, and the other 2 are closed my these grates. i found this texture in the 3dsmax 7 textures that came with the program so yea.

Looks great! for the effect of people rushing out quickly usually you might do some chairs falled over and all of them pushed back from the desk, maybe some lab equipment on the desks, test tubes.. the other tubes and the bunsen burner.

ok spent a few mins fixing an error with my textures, then made a chair model to put in the main room.

i will probably be adding more or moving them around some later..

OH YEA! ok so i found out how to do those nice renders that everyone seems to be doing. turns out its really easy. so look in my photobucket account because theres 4 pics of some really old models i made that mave been rendered that way. and theres also some crazy pics that i use as my wallpaper.
