Skinning questions

Ok... new to PC halo (aren't we all...) and i was wondering how to go about actually accessing the textures. Is there a universal texture for a warthog? or is the texture stored individually for each level? Are there any utilities currently out that allow you to edit the textures, and if so where can i find them?

Are there any skins out there currently?

sorry for the load of questions... thanks in advance for any answers. :D

No, those are very good questions. The textures are contained in a .map file (like everything else). The exact format of this file is unknown right now, but we are working on a utility to extract them if Gearbox doesn't release a utility soon.

Gearbox is supposed to release tools soon that will allow us to modify them, as well as maps.

Check out their editing FAQ here:

ok, thanks.

Yeah, i kinda figured the .map files contained everything, since they were really the only files of real size... and the one named "bitmaps" didn't hurt.

i could have sworn gearbox mentioned they were releasing a texture editor along with a map editor. Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to release a utility to make new maps that doesn't allow you to change the textures on those maps.
