Info/Tutorial Request - Noise modifier for landscaping

I'd like info regarding using noise modifier for landscaping - such as comparisons to other ways of creating landscapes. Pics would be awesome if available.
If not, I'd be happy to take what you're willing to give!

The noise modifier? Why do you wanna use that, use the displacement modifier.. Get a nice bumpy image, or you can draw whatever you want in and make some pretty cool terrain.
