some possibly cool map ideas

im getting bored with the map im making right now, which seems to happen a lot with me. its a micro style map of my room, and ive completed the actual room stuff... then started making it a covenant factory? idk it kinda ruined it. but i started brainstorming today so tell me what u think of these ideas. note that they are not totally thought through

-a ship that is travelling and has 2 sides, split port and starboard. each side of the ship has a hangar, so each team has an area to be and have stuff. i was thinking of making a new sky with a scrolling bitmap of stars, so it looks like the ship is moving. i was also gonna make little pod-type space craft to travel in. problems would be making the whole outside of the ship, and what if people just land in some crack in the ship and hide there....

-something like in the arbitor level from h2. i think thats the level. but it would be like when you are outside cutting the wires that keep the structure in place. it would be basically circular and be falling. again, a scrolling bitmap and some dust particles with rly low density should create a good effect.

-a section of a bridge. on both sides the bridge has been broken creating an island, basically. havent thought this one out too much yet... as u can prolly tell...

-an old style wooden ship. heh idk i thought fighting on one of those would be cool. or maybe have 2 ships side by side. :D


ok so yea plz i would like some input on this. suggestions, criticism, whatever! : D

Unreal Tournament once had a map where you were on a ship and you could go outside, but if you fell off the ship you died obviously...it was pretty fun. I think the trick is to not make it too big if you decide to go that route.

To be honest it would be cool without any new vehicles or anything..kinda like a much cooler version of Atalanta if you know what I mean..not actually that map, but along those lines only in space.

What you could do is create a map that felt very much like a covenant ship, drawing from either or both Halo and Halo2 styles. You could make it so, just like in the Unreal Tournament map, the structure of the external ship prevented you from going very far outside on the ship, just a few areas out there, the rest of it was tall and gave the feeling of a huge ship, but at the same time prevented the player from losing focus of the game or simply hiding out. you could detail up the tall part with some lights or something too for added realism.

Those are my maunderings, I hope they help you out. I would be happy to playtest or anything like that. I'm just starting out and am new to the mapping scene.

I have a lot of creativity- and a lot of gaming experience, just no mapping experience. I also believe in balanced maps that don't rely on gimmicks so I won't be coming up with dumb ideas part way through like why don't we put random explosions in the ship to kill everyone or something wierd like that.

yea im thinking now of taking the basic shape of the ship from that big covie ship. hmm... maybe a conversion but with parts taken from different places. ill prolly have some pics of ideas later

awesome- can't wait to see 'em!

By the way, the UT map had you coming out somewhere near the engines...you could actually see the fire coming out....

...you could throw an animated texture or something out there to have engine blasts and (if you can do this in Halo) assign a rumble noise to them (or whatever sound they make in the game if you hear them in H2-don't have an Xbox so haven't seen anything more than screenies from H2)
