WIP: AOTCR (sort of)

ok im just working on making the bsp of the aotcr work n such.. but i had an idea

how would an sp-like map sound? i was thinking starting out on the ground outside the control room building. you's have to fight up the zig-zag style path up the building. as you go up, the ai would get harder. then u eventually get to the control room, and i guess thered be some uber ai? not quite sure. but right now im just making the bsp look nice. im adding/getting rid of some things. oh yea and the control room floor is a mirror like in the level.

this is all ive done... cuz for a while radiosity would take 30 mins to just start and stop.

pretty cool i think that would be an outstanding mp map as well.

Yeah. Looks great for SP. So, you planning on getting help from Tiamat, cause he helped another guy make a Desertplat level that was a SP replica of Truth and Reconciliation's outdoor BSP. Looks good, keep up the good work.

hm didnt think of that.... but that would be awesome to get the actual covenant bipeds and such in here. im starting to think that maybe it could be something like a ctf game. you can have a team and u have to capture the flag in the control room. theres a lot of ai and stuff. so basically giving you a purpose for beating the ai

yep... amazingly ive only been working on it for like a week or so... keeps getting better by the minute

I think what Excalibur meant was is it an actual converted scenario_structure_bsp? and I can see it isn't.

I mean did you extract it from Sparkedit to OBJ, flip/create the faces, texture, and add some geometry onto it? Or did you make a semi-custom BSP with pieces from AOTCR?

oooh. its extracted the sparkedit-.obj-flip faces-add texture way.
but im changing up some stuff. as an example, heres part of the outside area that i need an opinion on...

leave this glowing green inner rock? maybe make it reddish like its lava? or scrap it. i really made it to have some sort of natural light away from the whole complex. i personally think its sweet.

and as u can see, the pathway up the complex is really dark... but ill be fixing that. probably tonight and running radiosity till the morning :D

EDIT!!!!... just a thought.... does halo have lava?

yay for new pictures. heh sry tack i made the path lighter. i played it with some ai and the way it went from light to dark and back again got annoying. and u cant see where ur going even with ur flashlight sometimes. but hopefully im really close to having the bsp finished! then all i need to do is work on ai.... which on the first try didnt turn out to great...

(me getting my butt kicked by way too many ai bots that take 2 rockets to kill)

heh but anyways, im hoping that maybe if im a good little boy santa will bring me some covenant bipeds and some extracted ai tags :D .... or i can see if i can get the from the people who made that other sp map for ce. but anyways, heres some pics of the bsp. oh yea forgot to add tress and rocks and stuff. meh ill have that some other time.

as you can see the level gets darker as u go along.. and the ai will get harder too

getting closer.... im just finishing up the scenery for the level. i did an experiment to see if i could make the c_storage things fall over when hit by something. i ended up with something that when spawned, automatically leans on its side and always tried to return to that position. basically the physics were really screwed up. oh well not that important. but anyways heres some pics of the progress

those pics are from radiosity_quality 0 and i usually run a quality 1 before i release it. i have recently been given an opportunity to get some help on this map, in the way of getting some of the ai in and such. so hopefully that will turn out well.

about the gameplay... im thinking of having multiple versions of the map. the basic idea is that its a giant ctf arena. the team that starts in the control room should be on defense. that would be like the ai. it will probably be just like a mp map, but with ai. so you can have friends join you in the fight against the covenant. im not sure if i can do this, but i will only have 1 type of spawn point, so everyone is on the same team. another version might be made for mp w/o the ai. another might be with harder ai, since the gameplay is different from the desertplat map. another question is how to handle the ai respawning. it would kinda suck to have to battle an endless supply of enemies, but you dont wanna kill them all off, then go for the flag numerous times unhindered. maybe set the respawn time to be really long? idk yet. but some feedback would be greatly appreciated.

oh yea and i added snow... and portalled it. well kinda. heh.
