HEK Tutorial Question

Hi,
I was bored so I decided to make the map that the HEK tutorial gives instructions for. I'm stuck at the part where you make the stream. It says to make a polygon (with length segs of 8 and width segs of 1) that covers the water area. I did that but then it says to select the faces that make up the actual bed. However, the faces on the polygon are too big to select just the bed faces...here's the pics that the tutorial gives you.
Can someone please help me?
