Actually, if you download a skin, usually it's a PPF file. So, you would have to apply the PPF to bitmaps.map... or if you have an XBox skin, load the map, transfer the cache file and then patch it (and transfer it back, obviously).

A ppf bitmaps is a file that you patch (into bitmaps). First, download a patch device, prefibaly PPF-O-Matic. Open up PPF-O-Matic and choose your halo file called Bitmaps for the original file. Then choose the PPF file as the patch.
