Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

[wip] Elite Model

Post by Viggy »

Okay using the HaloPC elite model and the unarmored Arbiter from cutscenes of Halo2, I've been attempting to model myself a somewhat decent unarmored Elite.

I know it's not perfect and it is unfinished (no teeth or eyes yet, and the muscles are not the way I quite want them). But other than that, something just doesn't feel right. Some help in pointing out what tha
t may be would be greatly appreciated.

looking good!

my only complaint is that the lower calves seem a bit too large around. other than that, you just need to bring the poly count up after you get everything set to where you want it. it's going good so far, keep it up!
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

Yeah I completely agree. Looks great. Bit too bumpy but as zandi said, that can be fixed with a little more tesselation.

I bet that's because you don't know how to do it, so therefore he must have stolen it from somone else instead? If you can't do it, they must be cheating, right?

So, can you tell us how to do it then?

That is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is, you are accusing him of stealing somone else's work and claiming it as his own. Do you have proof of him stealing his work from somone else? I imagine that you don't. Just because I couldn't do it myself doesn't lead me to the conclusion that he stole his work from somwhere else. Realistically, would you make an account on a Halo Modding Website just so you can show off somone else's work and claim it as your own? In the words of somone whose name I forget...
YOU FAIL
Now, please, if you want to continue this, send me a PM. Let's end this so normal conversation can continue.

That is a crazy model, keep the work going. 9/10.

That is crazy. But as Zandi said the poly count could go up, especailly around the knees. But that thing is great man.

I gotta keep a better eye on the threads I make... lol, i haven't been on the computer for a day and an argument already shot up.

Yes this is custom.

The way I did it started with me wanting the model of an unarmored elite (becuase that is the beginning of another project) and I once had that (extracted from Halo2) but I lost it a while ago. Instead of trying to find the file, I figured I'd make it from scratch. How? Well I started with the extracted model of an Elite from HaloPC. I cut that model in half and used it's left half as a reference to create a rough model from scratch on the right. Then I cleaned up the right half a bit using a Halo 2 Cutscene (A Whisper in The Storm) as a reference and then I just mirrored the right half.

I want to go back and re-edit some of the upper arm, leg, chest and back muscles as well as add some teeth and eyes (instead of just making those bitmaps, I want to model them). So I'll most likely be cutting the model in half again to re-work the right side (not changing the left just in case something goes wrong).

And I'm sure it helps a bit that I do 3d modeling in my shop class in school (even though we use a totally different program (Autodesk Inventor instead of GMax)).

I'll post back with updates either today or tomorrow (depending on when I have time to continue working).

Thanks for the comments/criticism.

UPDATES:

I'm very happy with how the muscles are turning out. The back, chest, arms, are all more defined.

I actually went back to redo the hands so they look quite different now. A bit wider, more defined/detailed and flow more naturally into the wrist and further to the arm.

I also started the teeth. There in place but not finished as far as little details.

Pics (sorry for size, was too lazy to crop):

Here are the teeth and a slightly more detail head/neck.

Here you can see the defined back muscles and the smooth flow of the hands to wrists to arms.

the muscle definition is AWESOME! the back, chest, and arms are looking especially well. you've got this no-problem. with just a bit more time, this could be one of the best user-made (from scratch) bipeds. (well, probably the only one :P)

...You need eyes...

Looks great though.

Also, although I'm a pretty crappy modeler, you will probably want to make sure its almost perfectly symmetrical.
