Ok this is my second model. Its really plain but i dont understand how to add alot of detail. I made it in 3ds Max 8. Ive just begun to understand plane modelling also.

It's too narrow, and not every edge should be rounded like that. But it's a start.

Just keep practising and you shall get there.

I'd like to see a bit more detail on the body and the top of the barrel. In the reference image there are little bumps on top, and I think those would look nice in the model.

And please resize your signature.

thank GOD! someone new to modeling actually started witha reference image!!! ::high five::

but, you should use more than one reference image. and try to step away from using the line tool to trace it. i know you can't plane model yet, but you'll get there.

for now, try to model using primitives, like the cylinder and box. model the parts seperately. (barrel, stock, handle etc etc) and then put them together.

keep at it and work hard. once you get to plane modeling, you'll love it.

Dude. No. Do you even know who Katarn and Snaf are? They are some of the few 1337est modelers that have ever set foot in CE. =D

No, only the earliest 'Nam M16A1s had those (although his ref is one of them). The later M16s from the mid-late 60s on had 4. I did 4 on mine just because it was easier. Also, some parts on your model are still too round... particularly around the top carry handle and receiver. Make that a little more boxy, widen the gun, and work on the sights a little, and you'll have a pretty good M16. And also I agree with Snaf, model it in seperate parts, it makes everything a LOT easier. Also you might want to try making the cocking lever and stuff, guns kinda need them :P

Nup, 100% splined baby :P I still haven't found the time to learn plane modelling... next school holidays, maybe...

Getting those details wasn't too hard, just time consuming. Involving a lot of new shapes being created, edited, and booleaned... that model took me about a full day's worth of work on and off (started it in October and finally finished it in January).
