how to use maya for halo editing

Post by kaynolliee »

for those of us that like the easier format and set up of Maya as opposed it the complexity and difficulty to learn of 3DsMax me and my friend got to gether and found a solution.

in Maya (5 at least) we found it is possible to export as a .obj file but they are for some reason incompatible with halo, don't ask me why.

~ ~ ~ the process goes like this ~ ~ ~
programs you will need
Maya - i used Maya 5 but im sure 4 will work but im not sure about any other versions

HMT3-halo map tool 3

Milkshape-you can get a free trial version of this off the net

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. open HMT and export the models you wish to edit .
2. open Maya and import the .obj files you just exported using HMT.
3.now that the model is in Maya you can edit it until you heart is content.
4. now to export it you will need to mess with some settings first, you will need to go to window>preferences>plug-in manager and make sure you turn on the .obj support
5. after that you will be able to export it as a .obj but it wont be able to go back into halo yet!
6. now open Milkshape then import your edited .obj file then export it again as a .obj file
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

why this works i have no idea but for some but importing a .obj then exporting it as a .obj file, works! :P
