Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

I'm Crazy... But I've got an Idea I need help with...

Post by IceDevil122 »

Greetings to all ye who wish to (maybe) help me out!

I'm a huge fan of halo and UT2004. So, I was wondering if I could copy blood gulch to 3DS MAX 6 to put it in UT. You see, I don't wan to copy just the warthog or the banshee or a tree or rock, I want to copy the terrain, the cliff walls and everything that is in blood gulch besides the vehicles, wepons, and scenery. By this I mean to make the cliff walls and ground and caves into one giant piece... one giant static mesh, if you will.

All I need to know is how to put this into MAX, I've got it from there....

Thank you soooo much :!:

Yup, it is very possible. Go grab Sparkedit v3 for the original HPC. Now open up HPC's Bloodgulch.map in it. Under one of the menus at the top you should be able to select "Export mesh to .obj" Do that, and save it where you can remember where it is. Then grab a .obj importer for MAX (google it...there are a few) and import it. then you'll have to attatch everything into one mesh, unify the faces, then go on a flipping spree on those that still aren't facing the right way. Then you have to scale it WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY up b/c .obj's are microscopic when first imported for some reason (use a reference model to get it scaled up to the correct size or the next step will mess the model up). Now that you have it scaled to size, select all the vertices (make sure to have "ignore backfacing" off) and set a weld thresh of .01, and click "weld" to get rid of most, if not all, the remaining errors. Then reskin it and you're ready to export it into UT2004. :D Hope this helps ya man.

ooh! ooh! make the cave under the other cave, like the one near blue base sorta you know right? Make that thing go all the way through that would be so cool. And behind each base, make a little sniping bunker. But dont change too much stuff or it will be dumb. That would be awesome.
