If Hizlo can't host it then I think it is fine. HaloMods isn't as important as your financial needs. I don't mind if it would go down for a while at least, and I'm sure no one else should mind either.

I don't like the idea of charging users money. I like the site, but not that much. I totally support it but I just can't find myself doing it. I see nothing wrong with donations though.

But as far as suggestions, it's pretty much the same as everyone else: Reduce the server capacity, and if it means taking the site down for a month or two, then do it. We can manage.

It would take a month or two to reduce the server size? I could see that if you were to change service providers, but otherwise...

Someone enlighten me before I confuse myself some more.

Another option might be to make a partnership with a survey site and give users the choice whether nor not they want to take some surveys to support the site. Similar to how the free Xbox, PS3, etc sites work except all the proceeds would go towards the monthly charge.

Taking the server down for a few months would hurt more than it would help, I imagine. If he takes it down for a month or two, he loses all that potential ad revenue. He'd have more time to gather the $100 or whatever still needed, but he'd still have to pay it. The better idea would be to keep the server running, keep donations coming, and keep the ad revenue coming in. Removing the forums would remove this discussion, and it would hinder discussions about how to remedy the situation. We'd need to relocate to work out the problem and we'd lose quite a bit of input. I have no doubt with the 5k+ members here, we can come up with $200 or so for this month until the situation gets a better solution.

I don't have suggestions. But, where would I find a donate section?
If I can work up the money, I'll pay it. I think this site has helped me enough.

I quite like this site. My daily internet routines would feel really empty without it. If I had paypal I would have already donated, I'll see if I can pay my dad cash to donate for me or something.

I think the best would be to a find a way to ''Secure'' The site's future years by taking a let's say 3 years contract to be sure nothing happens. Find sponsors that can host your downloads or something....

and if it has to close, the Database should be Archived somewhere for the help files and the tutorials. Loosing this site would probably mean Halo CE Community's end.... Since all noobs couldn'T search the forums anymore for help topics, Tutorials and such.

Is the samething going to happen to Halomaps, now the last site out there that can massively host?

An ad could be added at the bottom of the page, but on the sides as someone mentioned would be unbearable.

How about the phpbb 2.012 Mod, that allows a bot to post after the first post of every topic.

That would be a ad below the post, and people see those and generally could click them.

Are you refering to the mod that replaces the topic-starter's sig with an ad? And then every post after is normal? It could work... I always find those a bit annoying though.

That would be horribly annoying. This site should not come to the point where it is force to constantly shove ads directly in the user's face.

Why are you so surprised? Look at all the users, all the mods and pictures that have been uploaded to the site, and the size of the forum. Its not really surprising.
