The Arbiters are back!

I would first like to state we will not tolerate ANY spam or flamming what so ever. If you dont like the idea you can leave or post constructive critism only.
SHOUTrvb wrote:We're bringing back the arbiters, but they wont quite be like before. Right now we're looking for a list of well respected active members who basicaly already have the power of speach and are listened too for the job. Where as we used to have a few arbiters with no power to watch after everything and keep everyone in line, now we're going to have the new Arbiter v2's with just as much power as a mod, but it will be limited only to their assigned forums and monitored by the moderators and admin. There will also be a lot more of these guys, we're making sure we get both quality as well as quanity. Back in the day when we had the regular Arbiters things were a lot better, but a lot of times the Arbiters would have lists and topics that would sometimes never be taken care of and they would continue posting more all the time (we had some good arbiters  ) But the amount of people flamming and spamming was overwhelming. I dont always blame the members for these kind of sparks, most of them are new to the community and just dont quite fully understand the concept of a double post (I know it took me a little while :? ) This is why we're bringing in the Arbiter v2's. They'll be there as guides to direct the thousands of people here and new people joining every day. There will be plenty so there will never be an overwhelming amount stress on them. The key here is to have everyone on the right direction so the Arbiter v2's dont even have to use their limited powers. People will respect them because they were already once respected members, but now they'll wear a badge. I believe strongly that this adjustment will work, and I hope that everyone will cooperate and support the idea as well.
------

So as you can see we're bringing back the arbiters so they can also help us, but mainly so they can help you

Now unlike before you will not be able to submit any kind of request telling us why you think you'd be a good arbiter. If you do; it'll be ignored. We're only picking who we believe to be worthy of the job. Some you may not agree with the members picked, but each one that get's the position has been reviewed by both me, the other staff, and the Administrators (including gren on some) One of the main reasons for doing this is to groom replacement moderators when old moderators move on.

This post is mainly to inform you on everything that's been going down behind the scenes for the past few weeks. We have read your concerns and we've been spending a lot of time perfecting this idea. Now even though this is real and happening, we would like to hear some of your ideas, CC, and thoughts on the matter.

Also, This is only on trial basis. If it doesn't work out, we'll remove it and move on. We would also like to remind users to use the report post feature just like before, we're still deciding if the arbiters will even be able to see reported posts.

Talk away!

Great step forward, guys. I really hope this works out to make this a better place. Good work, and I look forward to the Arbitration! (I think there will be little criticism until this has begun and has been running for a while. )

There will always be friction when starting (or restarting, in this case) something like this, where any given people will have more or less power than anyone else, but if it is felt that it will, overall, benefit the forums, it's worth working through. Glad to hear Arbiters are coming back, I felt it was a good idea then, and it should work out for the best.

I can remember back in the day when it was just Admins and mods, and there were no need for Arbiters and Jr. Admins etc because people had the decency and the respect for this site, and now that there are thousands of members, people loose site of that, forcing the need for Junior Admins and Arbiters. Hopefully this will bring more decency to the site in all of the sections. I enjoyed the old halomods...and maybe this shall restore that old halomods kind of feel.

Some of your new arbiters are in the top 10 for most reports against them...Reports which aren't frivolous, but some made even by other people you made as arbiters...Guess that sums up the quality of them...

As for respected members being considered, I can think of several of the most respected members who weren't even contacted...But no surprise there...I

I don't thinks it's really an authorotive thing, I think it's more of how people don't take the time to really read the rules and forum guidelines, we need to encourage people to do that, just just correct everything they do, staff power is only half of the battle.

I'm aware of the reports, we've considered them. There are also more people to come that are on somewhat of a stand by thing. Each arbiter has been told to post on all their actions and we will be monitoring them closely. Really things can only get better or not at all. Arbiters have no powers that can hurt this forum, and if they over step their bounderies we remove them on the spot. And I know your side on the arbiters as well Forge, I hope your willing to support this instead of rant about it. It's only on trial basis currently. So if it doesn't work out we'll remove it.

Alright then. Was this an accident to make me an arbiter or did someone purposely do it? The reason I ask this is because last time I checked, I didn't do anything noble to deserver this, but if you consider me worthy, my all means, I thank you and hope this will keep the forum in order. However, if this was an accident, whatever, but I hope you guys make this forum work. :)

If I believed any of that, I probably would support it...But I do not, and I will not...Guess being here for as long as I have, some of us see history repeating itself...I also really don't understand the whole concept of "we know they've been bad users, we know they're bad users, but we're going to give them a chance anyways cause it's easy to demote them"...Seems like the wrong approach...
