Someone of the bungie forums pointed this out:

After beating Halo 2 on legendary, at first you may seem disappointed. There's no different ending, no extras to be seen, and no true unlockables (the level you unlock can also be unlocked on Heroic). Yet, if you pay close enough attention to the credits, you may find what will be an important easter egg that'll blow you're mind... On the bottom of the credits, at the very end, you'll find an interesting tid-bit of information... "Coming February 9th". Now, what could this mean?

This may mean a 2005 release date, but with just 3 months left this seems doubtful (but definitely in the realms of possibility). This is more likely a release date for 2006.

Other possibilities include that February 9th could be the official announcement of Bungie's next project or the first wave of downloadable content for Halo 2. Bungie has expressed that Halo 3 will not be its next project yet this released date does leave some speculation...

Will Halo 3 come out in a mere 3 months, or possibly another year? What does the date mean, is Halo 3 finally here? One thing is for sure, the only way you'll know is on February 9th, when something special from Bungie is sure to come.

that sux, I think they will make the rest of the story on DLC, just think of the money microsift would get, just cut off the ending and make it for DLC, that would get so many ppl to sign up for XBL...

I think its another publicity scam like Ilovebees. Made simply to overhype their shitty games and trick idiot newbs into purchasing them.

yeh, but the only thing different here is the fact that the people have the game, but yeh, it probably is a publicity stunt...who knows..except bungie and M$

Such a lame ending. Really. The game seemed to kinda rush through too. I never really spent much time looking around.

Did Tirias (or whatever his name was) only say "Hammer Time! Can't touch this!" on legendary?

Uh... who's Tirias?

And I just watched the creds on Legendary, like... 2 hours ago. Never saw anything about the 9th. Probably Downloadable content, or the next book, if anything.

I wasn't really paying attention during the game. Not to mention I had to read some Greek plays recently. Tirias is in a few of them. =/

But I'd have to say the story was meh. The action was way too fast paced. But surprisingly I like being the arbiter. The graphics were sweet, but I never really noticed them. The fog was kinda annoying in the later levels. The same cheap strategies you used in Halo 1 SP work on halo 2. Just hide behind walls when someone sees you, they'll never know you were even there after awhile. I hate being such a cynic (not really :P ) but we all already know what's great about the game.

jerkasselitist.exe?

It's on everyone's system, it's just Encrypted with a 1 Trillion bit key, and it only unlocks when you've dealt with enough n00bs in your lifetime.

i found some interesting info in the Bungie weekly update:

Hella peeps asked: What is the February 9th date shown in the Legendary credits?

It is what we in the trade like to call nonsense. The credits on legendary are identical to the credits on easy. Go watch them yourself. This is what happens when internet trolls get picked up by legitimate websites. On February 9th, nothing terribly exciting will happen to the Halo universe. (notice how frankie sez nothing terribly exciting; still hints at somink, just not that exciting)

SoloRecon7 asks: What happened to the E3 level?

That level was substantially reworked between E3 and Nov 9th. The bits we kept can be seen in the Metropolis level, but in the end, we felt that some of the plot changes and gameplay designs were better served by a giant Scarab battle than a Brute boarding sequence.

Phore asks: Why wasn't there an invasion of earth like promised in all the trailers and stuff? The actual game didn't have an invasion at all!

SPOILER WARNING: If you pay attention to the plot, you'll note that the Covenant very distinctly did NOT have a full invasion force and seemed somewhat surprised to find the human Homeworld. Seems to me, from watching the cinematics, that the Covenant were in our solar system searching for something else
