Art Is Resistance

Post by JK-47 »

I made two versions of the flag, one in the background with a white canvas and black text. Then made a second version with white text and black canvas, then with skill placed the black version over the white version and had the text in the white version show through the black version's.

The black version says:
"Art is resistance, you have a voice, speak up, if not heard, yell louder."

And the white version says a lot of things... I didn't save the text before I put the other layer on top of it... So I don't know exactly what it says, but basically the same thing as the top layer.

Anyways, here it is:

Image

I was going to submit this to the Open Source Resistance website. I have another version if you feel the version above is too busy (although, the whole theme is supposed to be messy as the websites relating to the subject are scattered and such), here's the other version:

Image

Yesh... Once I find a decent way of duplicating these on a large scale, I'm gonna be taping them all around like on lamp posts and such. I'm probably gonna use the second one for advertising, the first one is too messy for people who are completely oblivious as to what this might be. Speaking of which, for those of you who still don't know, this is the Art Is Resistance flag, it symbolizes the right of freedom of speech and creativity, and all of the rights of Americans that are being slowly revoked by censorship and things of the like. It's more of a revolutionary thing that hasn't happened yet, it would take a while to describe, but Shadowkhas at least knows :D

Wow, inspiring, now I want to take down the government. This stuff is useless, a graphic on a forum is going to do nothing, if you want to make a difference, spend the time you are spending on this graphic on a law degree and become a politician, because right now, you frankly aren't doing/effecting shit.

That form of art isn't Resistance, but a form of conformity. Why brand it with a corporate logo?

I wasn't trying to inspire you, and also, it's not a sign for anarchy, it's a sign standing up for civil liberties, your getting the wrong idea. I know that pretty much everyone on this forum doesn't give a damn, so please don't patronize me. And there is no way in hell am I going to become a politician, I'm just merely a citizen who cares, not someone who expects to get high in power with all this stuff. If you have enough citizens who care, that's enough to make some sort of a change. I have a chart if you would like to see it. I don't know why you decided to be an ass about it, I haven't done anything to offend you, keep shit like that to yourself please.

And on to what Cuda said, it's not really a corporate logo. NIN doesn't use it to symbolize their band, they are just the ones who made it. It's just a general thing, however I do see what you are saying.

Oh please, this is an open forum and you are subject to our what we think about what you are posting. I just find it incredibly corny/trying to hard by posting some graphic made by a corporate entity and thinking that you are somehow going to "resist" anything. How are you possibly making a difference against the government? Listen. NIN is run by a bunch of guys in suits sitting around a huge marble table thinking, "Hm, how can we make a product that appeals to a specific sub-culture?" NIN's product/message is the result.

I do realize this is an open forum. I'm just saying, don't try to knock me out of what I'm doing here, it's not going to work. And, stop being an ass. And no, this thing isn't thought up by the corporations, this whole story line was written by Trent while they were doing the Beside You in Time tour, along with the Year Zero album on a laptop. You know, some people actually have a mind of creativity and aren't just out for your money. Just because they are a more popular band doesn't mean they don't give a shit either. Hence why all the NIN products are so cheap, hence they put on a free show in LA for all who showed up to the resistance meeting, hence they purposely put their album out for grabs for free on the internet.
I'm not "resisting" anything that is much of a current problem either, I'm just a person who can see, and who gives a shit, unlike a bunch of selfish bastards these days.

I'm done talking about it now, I'm not going to stop what I'm doing just because some person I don't even know on a stupid internet forum, decided to take a topic and post something negative. Like I said, I've done nothing to offend you, you took it a bit too far in your first post. I would have respected what you had said if you just said "What I think you are doing is going to make no difference at all, and is pretty rediculous." But, I know enough about you that that isn't possible. So I'd appreciate it if you'd just stop talking to me. Lemme kinda turn something around that you said to me, however. What you are doing isn't going to make a difference, so like I said before, don't patronize me.

You don't see me going into your "OLOLMAONIAISE" topic and giving you shit for stereotyping.

the band has little if not no control over how much their stuff sells for since they are tied to a major label.

True.

Ok, I'm seriously sick of talking about this. So either just comment/rate, or shut up. Of course, with that attitude, no ones going to comment because I just told them to shut up, but whatever.

Thank you. And thanks for getting back on topic guys.

I agree though, it is a bit noisy and hurts my eyes as well, but as you can see from the websites ( www.freerebelart.com www.iamtryingtobelieve.com , etc.) they are pretty messed up as well.

Is stereotyping the issue on hand? I wasn't making a thread that was saying "Stop stereotypes go colorblind" etc etc and then posting that image.

I'm just letting you know, what you are posting is ridiculous from a spectator's view, because its always in the end going to be corporate "take down the government" crap.

Art is overrated. I have never been "moved" by an image, though I do like well-composed, aesthetically pleasing, artwork. I don't find your image aesthetically pleasing. You did good work on it, but it still doesn't look that good. It's just not my style.

As for Free Speech: I think that the majority of the time when people (Like Rosie O'Donnell) deviate from the norm and make a huge scene about something they're not exercising their right to free speech for something they believe in, they're just looking for attention and trying to get a reaction from people. That's not always the case, however.

As for censorship: I am totally for it. I like turning on the television and not hearing the "F-bomb" and other obscenities thrown out at random. It really is a lower form of speech and has a tendency to drop a person's vocabulary when they form a habit of it (my vocabulary is already low, so I need all the help I can get).

I am also glad for censorship in other areas. I don't want to turn on the television and see meaningless sex and violence and have to worry about what my future children will be viewing. Sure, by getting rid of censorship you are advocating "free speech" and allowing those who like such things to view/hear whatever they want, but you are at the same time forcing those who don't want any part of it to be exposed to it. It's easier to search for what you want than hide from what you do not want.

That's just my random thought for the day...

JK-47, you talk about these "selfish bastards that don't give a shit" but you're the one being selfish, sitting around and complaining about people's rights to free speech, instead of doing anything that actually makes a difference.

Ugh. Ok, I have said this before, but I've got to make it more clear apparently because people won't take the time to read. So naturally, there's going to be some misconceptions on where I stand, and what this stands for.

I'm not trying to take down the government! I am FOR system, I am NOT an anarchist! I am merely implying that I do not like how things are being run.
Dsoup, you couldn't possibly know anything about me just because I posted one topic on the internet just simply stating that I don't like a certain thing. I only posted this to see what you guys thought, and if it would be worthy of putting around as fliers. I now see, that was a big mistake since some people either:

A. Have absolutely no respect.
B. Don't read
C. Don't know how to drop an argument I didn't even intend on in the first place.

Now, I am so fucking serious; get back on topic! All I want is a rating, and possibly some constructive criticism. That's all I need, I don't need anyone patronizing me and trying to switch me to what you think would be more reasonable, or what would be heard most. That is all my business, not yours.

If you don't have anything that can help me, or just an overall rating/opinion on the pictures, don't post. I don't take advice on life from people over the internet on a modding forum (as crazy as this might sound!).
