Hey guys, I was bored and decided to download gimp. After a little while, I came up with this:



I was in GIMP for a few hours making a few other things, mainly just to learn the layout of gimp, where everything was / what everything does, etc. Basically, I want you guys to tell me what you think of it and what I need to add, as alot does need to be done. Plus, any ideas on where I can find some nice fonts are nice, cause the fonts that came with my Microshaft computar are pretty laem.

This IS my first sig ever, so if you offer any help, put it in lame-mans terms for me.

EDIT: I just realized, that is just a smidge over the size limit isn't it... I'll have to make a mental note of that for later.

Double EDIT: hahaha, JK-47 meet HK-47 (HK-47 is the guy in the new sig, he is from SW:KOTOR )

Sig = not so much
Not too bad for first Gimp work. Add a border, get a higher quality render, and blend the render in a bit better.

How do I add a border?

I'm willing to bet there's a menu option to do it, but i'm going to do it a different way: Get the 1x1 px brush, zoom in all the way, and paint it myself. How clever am I?

It took me about half an hour to get HK's head in the position that it's in, idk why. But i actually know how I did it, so once I find a better render I will breeze right through it. Assuming I can remember how I made that background!

EDIT: Waaaait, I can just use the eraser and choose the option that erases everything but the background, right?

Psh... I'm a photoshopper. I don't know your gimpy problems =P

click in one corner, hold shift and just drag to the next corner. i havent used gimp in a while, but in photoshop you can just select all and then modify it so you may be able to do that in gimp.

Meh, got a different render, hand made a border (it's perfect, don't worry) and got a different pic. I will probably re-do the picture though as I don't like at all how it just suddenly cuts off, i'm gonna get his shoulder goin underneath the text when I have more time. I have to start my History homework already

EDIT: The text's border needs a LOOOOOT of work. I had to hand draw it. Of course, I can use hte magic select button to draw a perfect line around all the text, but I can't get it to draw a 1px white line around that selected spot. No, that would be too easy. Stupid GIMP producers

EDIT 2: Silly me, look at my craptacular job at cropping the pic, you can see white spots all over it :p

I bet that I could've done it, but I just don't know how.

Besides, I don't really plan on using GIMP too much, I mean i'll just use it when i'm bored and feel creative, or somthing. I am just tired of looking at this sig I have right now and I don't want anyone to be bothered making one for me, so I am making it my own personal project to do it myself. I would much rather have a pice of crap sig I made myself than have one that is teh secks, but made by somone else.

Besides, I think it doesn't look THAT bad. I'd just need to make it look a little cleaner, and that's basically it. The whole drawn art-ish look of the pic compliments the Graffiti text, imo.

I am also taking the Halo 3 Campaign pic (MC standing against the wall) and I'm making a gimped pic of that... You probably won't ever see it, unless I manage to somehow make it look really cool :p

So... any tips that aren't "Get photoshop"?

Alright, time for another update. I may use this as the final, but I backed up a .xcf version in case you guys have any more suggestions.



I personally like it alot. I don't think I could've done a whole lot better for my first one ever. Now that this sig is done, I may add some effects or somthing. Any suggestions, let me know.

That makes me laugh every time I hear it. Script-Fu. That's probably an occupation filled by some crazy Asian dude. His master teaches him Script-Fu so he can h4xx the firewalls of the ping-pong dynasty in Japan and crash their computars... :p

So, does anyone know how I can create a border around the text? I hand drew the border as best as I possibly could, but it looks kinda icky. Too pixelated, and not rounded enough. Any ideas on how to fix that?
EDIT: Hmm, upon a little further thinking, would it be better to put a little more subtle color in that outline? That way the outline iteslf doesn't stand out as much, and you can't see the imperfections in it. Or, they are at least less noticable.

Also, any suggestions on effects I could apply to it? I'm particularly fond of the "Smear" effect, not sure why... It's a primary element of that Halo 3 pic I referred to earlier. I'm not sure if it would compliment this picture well or not, i'll have to try it when I get home...

The text is very pixelated and try making the render a bit smaller.

Another Update:



I was playing around with script-fu, and I found this background. I like it a little better than the black on Red. Plus, my imperfections in outlining don't matter because the background is white anyways

If you can't tell, I also blurred the image and smudged the background a bit, but HK's eyes remain a bit sharper than everything else. I think I may have gone a little overboard on the blurring though... I can always fix that, though. Any comments or suggestions?
