Yes, it's very pixelated. I'd try selecting the orb, feathering the selection, and then cutting it. It will become less pixelated. Also, which tutorial is that from?

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the avatar restrictions are still restricting avatar filesizes to 10kb and under

Yes, you do need to resize your avatar.

And with the big avatar, you've got the lighting messed up. There's a light glare at the bottom of the orb, but the bottom of the interface is very dark. It just looks too artificial for my taste.

It's not what I want, it's what the special-permissions members want. You see, if you don't resize your avatar below 10kb, a junior administrator will do it for you.
