Dodgeball: Mechanic Bay & Dodgeball: Lobby

This is the same concept and gameplay as my first Dodgeball mod. These are a couple of isolated segments of the map, smaller but with more elevation and cover and tactical choices. However, gametypes are not fixed, so they are Slayer only (if you want fixed gametypes, play my first Dodgeball mod). These are two separate maps.

SLC has been tested and seems to work fine. Once in awhile, players who join a game in progress will be unable to pick up a ball. This is remedied by starting a new game or dying (allow yourself to be killed, then have your killer kill himself to maintain the score). If anyone experiences other problems with SLC, please PM me.

I am looking for feedback on the gameplay. I'm wondering if I should facilitate the killing a little more, because it takes solid throwing accuracy right now. Holding multiple dodgeballs, a larger ball, a faster ball, a bit of homing ability, slowing down the biped run speed? What do you think?

It looks like a better place to play than the other one, however, on this image -

I think you should've closed off all exits so that it's only that one room.

The playable portion of the map consists only of the room and the little segment outside that leads from the side door to the back door of the room. Everything else is walled off. Right where the camera is for the outdoor picture, there is a massive wall. The outside is just an alternate way for people to sneak around the back and surprise someone. Still a very small map.

EDIT: After testing on system link, it's clear that the outside passage is really a nice addition. It allows for more sneaking around and ambush instead of strictly throwing and dodging balls.

Mechanic Bay is good for keeping the action indoors though.

Looks interesting. You should do more to it though.

you should make a stadium type of building somewhere like in the soccer mounds mod.

Very cool but could use a skin and more of a dodgeball feel to it. Like make a line and put a invisible wall there, then each side throws the balls at eachother and when hit they die. Once everyone on one side is dead the next round goes.

(You would need the settings with one life and like 5 rounds.

*screams in terror*

I have a suggestion. You have three versions of this mod, it would be nice if all of them were in one mod and connected through teleporters. Only problem would be spawns though, but if people have the slightest amount of patience it would be easy to keep the game going nicely. I would really like to play this with someone, anyone got some time?

It would be an honor to thrash you on one of my own mods. It is quite a chore to for me to get the Xbox and internet in the same vicinity, but I might be able to swing something here in the next week or two.

To be continued in PM.

Thanks for your interest. I'm not feeling a whole lot of love from the crowd here... Some days it's just downright difficult being a misunderstood genius.

Captian do you want to play dodgeball with me on kai??

The levels have to be kept small in order for the game to be playable. Having teleporters effectively doubles and triples the map size. I would love to be able to teleport from one map to the next between rounds, but I don't believe this is possible yet.

If you are interested in coordinating an online game, please PM me about it instead of posting here. I'll be happy to school any and all comers in a good old game of D-ball. It'll help me hone the gameplay as well.

Feedback post!

This game definently helps with learning how to stick someone with a Plasma Grenade. The difference is you can have up to 4 stickies but only one dodgeball. Holding 4 dodgeballs would make it un-realistic though =P.

If you were to make I think those ideas are good, adding in special balls like a homing ball, fast ball, huge ball, that would certainly be fun, but I think it'd be best to hide those balls somewhere so they don't become the main source of attack and the smaller dodgeballs just die off or won't be used.

Back in school when we used to play Dodgeball, we always had 2 sides and if you stepped over the line you'd die, I'd like to see that be done in at least one level.

It would not be hard to make a Team Slayer arena where both sides are separated by an invisible wall, a chasm or a death barrier, and I originally had plans to do so. At a dozen or so downloads, however, I'm not seeing enough interest to invest the time. It's a chore now to coordinate even a small game of slayer, so few are the devotees.

I guess my D-ball mod is just too cool for most people here on the HM. 8)

I had thought about different ball types, including a fast ball, a slow ball, a bowling ball, a ball that explodes into several balls, etc. But I realized that the gameplay was getting out of hand, so I decided to keep it simple.
