[mod/fix] Gate Vehicle Spawns Fixed!
Posted: Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:51 am
by Agent ME
I was annoyed to no end by the bugs with the mod Gate involving the vehicles. The vehicles would respawn even though someone had already gotten the vehicle, and setting light and heavy vehicles in gametype settings didn't affect the game at all.
Vehicle Spawns set at Random
So I made this mod to fix that! All vehicles are properly defined now so they will not respawn until the taken vehicle disappears or is destroyed.
If you set primary light vehicles, the warthogs will be replaced with what you set.
If you set secondary light vehicles, the ghosts will be replaced.
(If you set ghosts as secondary light, fully undamaged ghosts should replace the broken ones)
If you set primary heavy vehicles, the tanks will be replaced.
If you set secondary heavy vehicles, the wraiths will be replaced. (Shade45's menu mod or an edited gametype is required to change this)
If you set primary turrets, all of the level's turrets will be replaced.
Coming soon in next version (hopefully): Fully-gametype compatable banshee!
To use this mod, apply ppf to a clean gate.map! The original Gate mod can be found here at

omg hax... pff all you did was edit the netgame chunks.
and i think you didnt even ask TSF, because he doesnt reply on his PM's most of the time.. so i guess you just posted illegal content...
you can't post mods that are edited to your likings, if you don't have the authors permission... -_-'
sometimes forums really seem to amaze me.

I don't know if I would have put it that way. But to some extent "smacktalker" is right. If the Swamp Fox wanted the spawns fixed, he would have done so.

I'm not saying I did something amazing and hard, or that I made this mod from scratch.
I saw a great mod with some glitches and released a patch fixing the glitches.
This mod is fully compatable in system link with the old version of Gate and only takes effect when the host is running this mod.
@jlddogger: I don't think he'd purposely want to release a mod with glitches. If I made a mod, and someone took the time to release a patch fixing a glitch, I'd be glad they took the time to do so.

Good work Agent ME. Now, this map is complete. Forget what the others said about it, I'm sure TSF would be happy that you fixed these glitches.

Why would The Swamp Fox bitch about this. I thought their was an open source attitude to this site. If he is just fixing glitches then why would it hurt the swamp fox? Unless he say so otherwise.

Guys this is useful so why are you always saying "easy" or... this will make time to some people who will make a mod on this map and no matter if it was easy or not tod o, the only thing that is important is the result

Look, it is merely a question of respect. You ask people before you use there work. The includes The Swamp Fox. Whether the site has an "open source attitude" or not, unless Swamp Fox says "take this and do whatever with it", you should ask.
And no, I doubt the Swamp Fox will care.

If that's the case then, Why don't we ask Bungie if can mod Halo2? After all its the same thing right? "Using Other peoples work". We do it all the time on this site don't we? So lets ask Bungie for premission, Oh but that's right we allready know what they say about it.
Hypocritical don't you think?

Of course it is. But what would you suggest? This site is based in Halo Modding.
Besides though they can't say so explicity, I have gotten the idea from bungie.net that they respect the modding community. They can't give permission, because of business restrictions. But consider Halo CE. They obviously support modding to some extent.
Like I said, it is a matter of courtesy (respect was not the right word). I don't believe this topic was disrespectful. It just lacks proper etiquette.

Illegal but you should ask first before posting edited content

He's not posting TSF's mod edited. He's posting a patch for TSF's mod - you have to download his mod and patch it first before you can use. Agent ME did nothing wrong.

Can I sayed pwned?

I was going to find that post slayer. Thanks for posting that. He gave credit. Unless someone requests to ask them to use the mod, it should be assumed that it is ok. Ultramagnus has stated that before since it is a PUBLIC forum.

Didn't someone ask TSF if we could make a mod out of it? And didn't TSF say "Yea, I don't mind"
Yea, there you go
Good job AgentME.

Ok now that we're past that...
Where should I place a banshee when I get around to it?
