[mod] Birds of Prey

This is a Team Liquid Metal mod:
Here is the sum of all my vehicle experiments. When I started, I hadn't really intended this to be a release-worthy mod (and it's still argueable whether it is) but my friends and I enjoy playing it and I've had several requests to release it, so here it is.
  • Map Information:
    [ Should be ] __System Linkable
    [ Sort of ] __Weapon Mods
    [ NO ] __Skin Mods
    [ NO ] __Physics Mods
    [ NO ] __Lighting Mods
    [ Most Definately ] __Vehicle Mods
To start off with, every vehicle flies. The scorpion needs to be selected through quick options just like normal, but now it's called a Stingray.

The warthog is now called the Raptor.

The ghost is now called the Shade (this can be taken as an homage to Shade45, I guess, but I really only used it 'cuz it's an apparition that isn't already being used by the covies). It's meant as a severe up-close fighter: It's got ridiculous please ban... I mean auto--aim up close (and I mean close--you're almost in boarding range before it'll hit someone) and it'll cut right through the Stingray or Raptor to cook the pilot, leaving the vehicle intact. (no pic of the ghost, 'cuz it looks normal--it just flies now).
I feel the map is fairly well balanced, although a good enough Shade pilot will always rape the Stingray.
The few issues I haven't been able to work out are:
The obnoxious Insolence dying noise.
I want the Raptor to be unable to be locked-on-to (still missing something there).
The Stingray is only board-able from behind.
My thanks to the rest of Team Liquid Metal for all their technical help, ideas that I ripped off, suggestions, etc. and to everybody else who took the time to answer my questions and help me out.

Looks Great:) Im downloading now, maybe you should get some pictures of the other vehicle...or does it just look the same but fly?

I really like it a lot!
But you do need to skin/darken/something...at least do a few more models or weapon mods :)
But i definatly like it :)

I don't really like model or weapon mods. Custom models don't look so good, thanks to DM's lack of uv-map support, and weapon mods are very rarely an improvement. Now that I think about it, I had planned on cutting the BR's auto--aim in half so you could actually aim and hit the Shade's gas tank. If I make a new version, I'll add that.
New skins would be nice, but I liked what I had enough that I didn't bother learning how to skin (yeah, I'm basically saying I was too lazy).

you released it! btw i forgot to say on tlm that its the target_driver you need to null oh yea and since its the tank(it is that tank you want to do isnt it?) it has 2 lockon points try target_hull or something

It's the warthog, actually, and I nulled every single marker that had the word "target" in it. I also did the turret... at least I think I did--when I double checked there were some nulled ones and there wasn't a target, so if I didn't then it doesn't need it.

Oh and the name Shade has been used. It was the name of the covenant turrets in Halo 1.

I like the Hog. It looks good although it kind of makes me laugh. It kind of reminds me of chitty chitty bang bang.

this looks fun, I allways wanted to model a plane but I never knew how to inject vehicle models

They're not custom models. They're longswords slapped onto the tank and warthog, and then given different shaders. I didn't even do any skinning or anything.

I've always been open with my discoveries. You know that. I'm here 'cuz I want fun maps to play on. If I give other people information there is a better chance that they will make maps that are fun to play on, which will, in turn benefit me when I play them. If people just dropped the "It's mine" attitude and worked more cooperatively we could all have more fun playing Halo.

very nice job. i'll dl on the weekend. btw, did u change the camera so it's like a banshee view or something, like the camera is farther out so u can see better?

Yeah, they all use banshee cams. Technically, they all ARE banshees with replaced hlmts, weaps, etc. You'll notice each one still makes the banshee sounds (I didn't care enough to change 'em) but blended with the vehicle's own sounds they each come out a bit unique. Like, there's a faint rumbling in the tank and so on.
