Wireless laptop problems

Post by CptnNsan0 »

I recently just received a Vista SP1 Basic computer and it cannot detect any wireless networks.

It's probably me just being stupid and forgetting how to do this so could anyone walk me through setting this up?

Did you press the wireless button on your laptop?

Two things:
1) Is the wireless card enabled?
and
2) Is the radio on?

To check 1), go to Start>Connect to...>Show all Connections:
Here it will list all the NIC's installed on the laptop, with a status like, "Disabled, Firewalled" or "Connected" or something along those lines.
If your wireless card shows, "Disabled," either double click it, or right click>Enable...
To check 2), right click your wireless NIC then go to Properties, and under the General tab of this new window, click Properties.
This will open a new window with a title of, "Wireless Network Connection Properties" with another General tab. On this tab, click Configure.
Another new window will open and you need to click the Advanced tab. Here it will list many properties, and you need to find an entry along the lines of, "Radio Enable/Disable." Ensure it is enabled.
