360 Falcon Chip RRoD'ed

Post by HPDarkness »

Anyways. Before the launch of Halo 3, Around August 9th, my Xbox got the red ring of death. I was very angry because I wanted to play Halo 3. So I sent it in the clerk ensured me it would be back in the First week of September. Well it was. Happily, I plugged in my what looked like "Refurbished console" and turned it on. Microsoft had not fixed my Xbox, they had sent me one that already had the Red Ring of Death. Frustrated, I called 1-800-4MY-XBOX. I talked to someone and told them about my situation. They said that they had no records of my console "blah blah blah". So I came to the conclusion that in order to play Halo 3 in time I needed and Xbox. I had recently heard the Halo 3 Xboxes had the new Falcon chips. So I traded in my RRoD'ed Xbox to Gamestop, along with several games, and got myself a brand new Halo 3 Xbox.

My Xbox was working beautifully, it didn't seem to get hot at all. Up until today. There were no problems. Today my Halo 3 Xbox RRoD'ed.

Basically I want to know:
Do any of you have the Falcon Chip Xboxes?
Have you had problems?

I havn't seen any reports online of the Falcon chip Xboxes having the RRoD. Of course I will call up the Xbox Tech line and get it repaired, let's just hope they send back a Halo Xbox =x

By the way I didn't know whether to put this in the Gamer's Corner, or the Tech section. Mods can move it wherever they feel necessary.

The chipset isn't make-or-break. Any console can RROD, but the newer boards are progressively less likely to.

I know any of them can RRoD. I just didn't find any reports and was wondering if anyone else had problems. I hate sending my Xbox in =,[

And?
That has nothing to do with this topic.
They are also only the repair boards, not in retail consoles.

I don't know whether mine is Zephyr or Falcon, but either way, it's still running good. It gets warm, yes, but I don't see it as a problem. I've left it on and idling for long periods of time, and it's in top shape. Sucks that yours gave out. :(

On the bottom of your power supply, check the output wattage. If it's 175W, it's Falcon. Mine's 203W, a Zephyr power supply. If you send your console in and they send it back with a new power supply, they replaced the motherboard/console, and it has the newer chipset. (Although the Halo 3 consoles already have that power supply, so that won't be an issue, I just wanted to say it for anyone wondering.)

I have the Halo 3 Xbox and it only RROD's when I play GTA 4. Then I reset it and it works fine.

i've had my 360 since november 2006, and thank god not once i had a rrod, maybe just freezed couple of times, maybe 10 times or less until now. It's just a matter of "luck" for anyone to get a 360 that will rrod. But microsoft recently added a 3years guarantee or something to every xbox, im surprised you didnt get anything from them.
