XP Search function not Working

Post by kibito87 »

So I was looking for a folder containing an entire cd i've ripped onto my computer today when I went to use the search function right in the windows start menu. I hit the button and absolutely nothing happens. I tried SFC /SCANNOW to see if I had corrupt or missing file and it went away after it was done so i'm assuming it found nothing wrong. I even went and reinstalled the search assistant .inf file. It installed everything and even after that it didn't work. I've googled this and a few things came up. I've tried each one of them and nothing seems to help. Anybody got any ideas on what might be the problem and a potential fix? I'm only going to reinstall XP as a VERY LAST resort.

Thanks.

I know it's the long way to do it, but have you searched your file folders for it? I doubt you put it in the win32 folder.

Try doing windows doctor(if you have it), it usually fixes a lot of issues.

Thank you guys for the replies but I already re-installed Windows XP awhile ago. If it happens again, i'll definitely take a look.
