alright, so i got my hands on a laptop recently, and i'll install linux on it soon, but i need a wireless card that i'll get alot of use out of. i've searched newegg some, but can't seem to come up with any good cards, so i guess i'l just ask what you guys here have.

anyways, i'm looking for a card that must be usable for wifi auditing, so it needs to have an atheros chipset (unless i'm mistaken...), PCMCIA interface, and at least wireless G, but the mroe the better. i'd prefer a card with an external jack i can hook my cantenna (or any other antenna i make) into, but i guess it isn't really necessary...

so if you know a good place to find something like that, or a card you have that you reccomend, please post. i'm going to be real busy the next few weeks, so i figure if someone here already knows what i'm looking for and can point me to it it'd save me alot of time.

Nah, just kidding. As for the card itself, I couldn't tell you a thing about PCMIA, sorry.

Netgear has some pretty decent PCMIA cards out.

I myself would go with a Linksys USB Adapter. There like $20 and work great. You can use WEP and many different security encryptions. I own 3 and none have failed me.

i may look into the USB adapter style, but it needs to have the atheros chipset otherwise wifi security tools won't work with it. also, from what i've heard the range on those things is miserable, although if i can plug an antennae into it, it'll be fixed.

but now that i think about it, this laptop only has USB 1.0 ports, and those are eral slow..

You can buy cards that convert your ports to 2.0, but now that I think of it, that kind of defeats the purpose...
