Best Antivirus software?

Hello all,
As some of you know, I used to skin halo 2 pretty frequently, but then, my computer got a virus from installing a program (iPod video converter). The virus wouldn't let me access the internet through a browser, but I could still ping websites through the command prompt. I tried to finish a terribly long tutorial, but it ended up not working. After this, I tried to reformat my drive. It wouldn't let me

. After all of this, I ended up buying vista, and although Microsoft says that vista is completely safe, I can't trust them after what happened to me. If anyone knows of the best anti virus software to protect against this sort of thing, and other viruses and problems as well, could you please post the name? Also, what anti virus software do you guys have? I plan to look through all of these programs and choose the best one for me. Thanks guys.
From,
Fox

The best anti-virus protection: A smart user. I've gone without anti-virus protection for almost 2 years now, and I haven't gotten a single virus. My step-siblings' computer however, has needed to be wiped several times over the last year.

That.
But if you must choose, I'd say Norton. It adds a lot of time to your startup unfortunately, however.

Since my accident, I have been very careful. But everyone makes mistakes, and you don't know when that is going to happen. So, I would like to have a Plan B if you will.

Norton pisses me off. They have it installed on my step-family's PC and everytime you install something, it gives you several pop-ups. I hate anti-virus because its always telling me that something I'm installing is a virus when its obviously not. Like wireless card drivers. >_>

Agreed, when I installed it before I had vista, and this whole accident happened, it wouldn't allow em to access the internet, so I disabled it. Then, it would never let me re enable it

I've never had one pop-up come up during any installations, and none of my programs have had troubles installing (aside from an msiexec error which Microsoft's Windows Update handled).

Yes, I'd say Norton.
However, as G.I.R said, a smart user is always the best.
I've gone without unprotected for about a year now, and I have not gotten one yet.

Vista comes with an efficient spyware remover(ad aware still better), and you don't really need to pay for anti virus. AVG can do that...And it isn't freakin' bloat wware mcafe.
The funny thing is, emails and sites you shouldnt go to in the first place are where you get most viruses

I'm not sure how legit this website is, but it is a ranking of ten anti virus programs.
http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ AVG is #9

I guess I like Norton. I have Norton Internet Security 2007, and I've never had any problems. I don't see why everybody says they get annoying popups. I have never had Norton bug me. Ever.

I have ad-aware and norton anti-virus, they both work fine, i set my norton so it doesn't bother me when I download stuff and it only runs scans at night so when i log on in the morning it doesn't have to restart just complete the scan.

I personally don't use any anti-virus software, but I know from experience that AVG is pretty good.
