What is Bump/Bumbing topics?

I see it in forums saying you bumped a topic, etc. so what exactly is it? Sorry for the n00bness

When you post in your own topic just to bring it to the top of the list for people to see. Minimum wait time to bump a topic is five days after the latest post.

Or say you find a mod on the 10th page of Halo 2 Downloads and its date posted was 5th jul 2005. And the latest reply for it was 2nd august 2005. Then your reply to that youve just "BUMPED" a topic that was forgotten.

I was told if it was already on the first page of the forum that is not considered bumping

It's bumping any time if you post with the sole purpose of bringing the thread to the top of the page. Minimum wait time to bump a topic is five days.
