New Model Skin Wrapping Technique?

Hey there, if you didnt know already, i likt to model a lot, and unfortunately, one i thing i dont know how to do is make a skin and wrap it around my model, or even just edit the existing skin to fit my model nicely through the model itself (I think its the UVW mapping but i dont know) but i found that on Milkshape, if you hit ctrl+T, it brings up a "Texture Coordinate Editor" and I was paying around with it for a while and discovered that you were basically able to take the model in pieces, and move it around on a flat image of the skin, kinda telling it what part would be wrapped where. WOW, i totally didnt know that this existed, but the only thing is, upon injecting my custom models that I overwrote the halo 2 ones with, it didnt show a skin when i wanted to do the same thing, it only showed a blank page. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this before, and if they have any knowledge about it they could maybe help me out cause i can model and skin, i just dont know how to get that skin around my model. Ill show you some pics of what im talking about, the reference ill use is the Longsword.
