uh ok so i was gonna buy a modded xbox from my friend, cuz mine broke but, b4 i do i want to make sure its legal

modded xbox is legal saving games to xbox is not.

so i can buy it from my friend, but what do you mean about the games? isent puttin halo 2 on your xbox legal?

No.You can't Legally copy Halo 2. It interferes with international copyright laws.

Legal: Puting Halo 2 on your HDD
Illegal: Copying Halo 2 and then selling your original Halo 2 disk.

Basically, as long as you only use it for personal use only its fine.

omfg thank you soo much i was gonna quit modding cuz it was illegal to copy it, but anyways, thanks for clearing this all up now i can sleep tonight ^_^ and um admins can lock this or delete this i have all i want to know

Correct, it is not illegal to make a backup of a game for personal use. It is illegal to sell it, or give it away.

(And, by the way, it depends on what process you use to mod your Xbox. It definately can be illegal.)

modded xboxes are almost always illegal, since the software on it (dashboard, apps) is compiled (created) with the xbox development kit, which was stolen.

there is a way to stay legal though, by only using software made with the open source development kit (openxdk), but that stuff is usually hard to find or not very good (no offence to the open-sourcers)

The BIOS is what I was referring to.
Software that was built off the XDK is not illegal. However, sites, such as Xbox-Scene, will not host it because it was made with the XDK, which is illegal to use/have.
