I can't FTP with my crossover cable. When I first set it all up, it worked fine. Then, I started having to reboot my xbox and all that stuff over and over, and finally I would get a connection. Now, I barely can do that. can someone please tell me what to do to fix this problem. The tuts i've used so far only get me working at first, but then it starts happening again. I've searched google about 100 times, and the same result happens. Please just help me. I realize this isn't directly related to Halo 2 modding, by xbox-scene and stuff are NOT helping at all.

Power cycling mb? I had this problem when I connected to Xbox Live sometimes. I would set all my connection stuff right, try and sign on and it wouldn't let me. I looked on the xboxlive website and it said to power cycle it. It worked, and I haven't had to do it since.

I can help you get connected to your Xbox.
Just find me on AIM. I am going to bed however, so.. either wait, or.. umm..

Just.. do this:

PC:
Start>My Computer>My Network Places>View Network Connections>(Your LAN adapter)
Right Click>Properties>TCP/IP Protocol Suite>Properties
Use the following IP address: 192.168.0.100
Subnet (Will auto-fill): 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway of 192.168.0.1
Premary DNS: 192.168.0.1
Secondary DNS: not required

Xbox:
Settings>Network... something like that. Find where you can edit your network settings on your Xbox.
IP address: 192.168.0.200
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1
Secondary DNS: not required

Back on your PC, try to gain an FTP connection to your Xbox; 192.168.0.200
If that still does not work, you're gonna hafta wait. xD

In order to specify that IP I gave you, you would have to set it to static.

So if you say it didn't work, yet it is still on DHCP, then you did not follow it correctly.

Do you realize how he is connecting to his PC?..

It's a direct connection, not through a gateway/router/hub/switch/bridge.

EDIT: As long as you are on the same subnet and the Default Gateway matches, you will be able to FTP as the DHCP IP should be retained even if there is no DHCP server.

No, iv've always had it set to yes, all the other tuts said to. just wondering if that was the problem. I have connected before, but as soon as I open my CD tray to go to the Evox dashboard (or power the xbox off and on) I lose connection. I looked at the IP on my xbox the first time it happened, and it was reset to 0.0.0.0 (the part that says what it is, not the part that I am able to edit. Whever this happens, my computer says im connected, but when I go to FTP, I can't connect. I have to reboot over and over until finally if at all I can connect.

If you have a connection to a device, and you turn that device off, even if it just a reboot, of course you're going to lose the connection.

It's simple logic. >_>

Now, did what I tell you to do work, or not?

thats not what i mean. I have to reboot it, then see if it will connect, if it doesn't i have to reboot again and again until it does. Why are you being so mean to me.

Umm, mean?
I thought I was helping you..

Oh well, if you think I am picking on you, I will retreat on all fronts.
Good luck fixing your problem(s).

Well looks like Ketchup Bomb posted everything I could think of but do you know how to ftp like the username and password because this may sound stupid but people actually didn't know this.

He had it set to Static, but he did not specify the correct IP address.

He found me on AIM and got the problem solved in three minutes.
