Stick to one topic, ok? Not multiple.
Modding Halo 1 is different.
Instead of modding the maps themselves, you mod the cache of the map.
These cache00*.map's (where * ranges from 000 to 009) are placed in the X:\, Y:\, and Z:\ partitions whenever the particular map is played.
Example: If you have a mod for Blood Gulch, you have to play an UNMODDED Blood Gulch in order for its cache to load.
Once the map has loaded, back out to the dashboard, and FTP over cache003.map (it MUST be 003 for multiplayer maps).
Apply the .ppf file that you downloaded from Halomods to the cache, send it back over to your Xbox, overwriting the original, restart Halo 1, and go play Blood Gulch.
Your mod will now be applied.
You mentioned something about downloading .MAP files, well, I know you can add .map files to the mainmenu, but all I know how to do is overwriting the existing ones.
For that, you would be better off checking the two forums that XxSilencedDeathxX has pointed you to.
