okay heres what happend. This kid messed up his xbox and softmodded it and couldnt get back on live so i told him to Restore Unmodded Backup and it works fine. To do this i modded mine like he had his just to see what it exactly said.Once i did all that i hit restore unmodded dash and the screen get all messed up as usual. well then i restarted my xbox and went on mech assualt and went to run linux again. then because it didnt work i hit restore unmodded dash again. and it still didnt work. Now i cant get back on Xbox Live and i wish i wasnt such a nice guy and didnt help the little kid, but can someone please help me.PLZ!

He wants to restore his unmodded dash in order to play on Live again, he did not say he wants to mod on Live.

Yeah I just realized that I was reading another thread about a guy that use to mod on live and then I read this thread and it say he use to have his xbox softmodded so he couldn't get on live so I got it mixed up

Okay now i can get on live even though i didnt change anything, but when i dont have the disk in it still has the unleash x dashboard. this still is a problem because now i cant make new accounts or cancel accounts, or any of that stuff.

Well basically what happened was you lost your "C" drive of your xbox. Just get it from one of your friends and FTP it the usual way and then you can put mechassault back in and restore your original dashboard.

By the way why in the world did you use Mechassault? That is really an old exploit to use and you should have went with Splinter Cell and Krayzies tools.

That is the MS Dashboard and I think doing that is illegal

Actually no it is not. You arent "stealing" anything from Microsoft because all dashboards and C drives are identical. If his friends xbox was bought and paid for then there is nothing wrong with that in anyway.

So you're telling me that I could rar my entire C:\ partition, post it on the web, and as long as they have an Xbox, people can download it and I wouldn't get in trouble?..
If people can connect to Xbox LIVE, then I could give them the DLC maps?

As far as I understand it, when people purchase an Xbox, they own the content on that Xbox. Just theirs.
Same goes with DLC content. When you download it, you assume a license that says you can USE these maps.
Not give them out like candy.

However, I may be wrong..

NO!! I never said anything about raring your whole c drive and posting on the web. That is just stupid. Just like when the map pack came out on disc. I borrowed the disc from a friend and got the new maps. No big deal. Microsoft didn't put a label on their map pack disc saying don't let friends borrow this or else. Same goes with the C drive. I am sure if you re-distributed it and sold it for your own profit, you would get in trouble. But what is the harm in borrowing a C drive from a friend? Answer is NONE. Period!

Multiple files that reside on the C:\ partition are COPYRIGHTED.
ANY kind of distribution is ILLEGAL.

That's why.

And if you obtained the maps that way, you did indeed break the law.
It's called stealing.

People get them for free from LIVE since they have to pay for the LIVE service.
People can also get them from the disc because they purchased it.

If you did neither, it's considered theft.

So your saying, just because it doesn't say you can't, that you can? So I could go up to Best Buy and walk out with a 360, because I didn't see a sign saying Do not steal Xbox360's?

Ok wow you guys are taking this out of hand now. So basically is what you guys are saying if you have a softmod and you lose your C drive you are going to go out and buy a brand new xbox for $150 rather than just get it from a friend? Totally out of question and if someone did do that I feel srry for them. Someone please LOCK this topic before anymore of this goes on.

Not basically, I am telling you that if you're such an idiot to NOT backup your C:\ partition, and somehow lose it, then yes; you should be kicked multiple times and be forced to follow the law and do what is right.

Remember, if your Xbox gets messed up, it's probably your fault.

Ketchup Bomb whoa man whoa. Chill out a lil bit geez. I do agree if you dont have your own C drive from your xbox on your PC somewhere, then it is your own fault. But wow chill on the attitude bro, I was just trying to help the man out. Ok so if you bought an xbox off of a friend because you messed yours up and used the C drive out of it, would it still be illegal? I think not. Posession is 9/10 of the law and I am unsure if it is "illegal" to resell an xbox to someone. All this copyright talk gets me wondering if even that would be legal.
