Has anyone had this problem with skinning.....?

Ok Im skinning a map and I tried to skin this rail it is a dxt4/dxt5 when I skin it and then inject it back in it doesnt change. I tried to change it to dxt1 and dxt3 but it still didnt work. its for halo 2
If someone knows how to fix this please tell me thanks
