Is it illegal to host halo 2 maps on a server for use for yourself? Because for various reasons I have to delete my maps from my computer very often and it is quite a pain to have to copy them all back. So my question is is it illegal to host maps so I and only I would be able to access them? And no it would not be a public server. Please don't flame.

No.
At least not to my knowledge.
Distributing them is very illegal, but as long as no one else can access them, and only you are using them for your own use, then I see no harm in it.
It's almost like backing them up to an external HDD. That is completely legal.

i thought the same thing except i just want to make perfect sure. other people could access them but only if i told them the URL, which would be illegal I know, but its still legal then right, if i dont tell anyone? oh and no one could find them any other way (ex: google). so is legal the final verdict?

hee people.. i know one thing, as long if you keep maps for yourself AND only for yourself.. there is nothing illegal...
but distributing isn't good...
i got another theory:
whatsup with mimesis hosting actual .map files on their servers and being able to download them?? but they are not allowed to host DLC (downloadcontent) maps... whats the difference between that?

I do not believe I have written a sequel yet.
So why are we continuing this topic? It has served its purpose.
