lightmap?cubemap?

what exactly are these? do i need to generate them for some textures i put on my skins? im not sure what they are or what they are for. ive been having probs with the light on textures so i figure that i need to generate them somehow?? can anyone help me??

A lightmap is what states the colors I.E. The sky on earth WOULD have a lightmap of bluish-white and around there, if you edited it you could make it red-black. Also a cubemap is for cubes,6-sided it applies a different texture to each side. You could also just UVW map though.
