There is a difference in "Making skins" and "Applying them yourself".
Are you referring to actually making them in a program such as Photoshop? or are you referring to just applying them in game?

Basically the vehicles in any map are gonna be externally located. Meaning you cant just apply the skin to your warthog then ftp the map to your box and expect to see your skin. When your in Dot Halo and under bitmaps tag, look at the location of the bitmap your skinning. If it says Internal that means it is just for that map. If it is External, it is also located in either mainmenu.map, shared, or single player shared.map. The warthog will say External(shared.) This means that bitmap is also in the shared.map. So you have 2 choices. 1.)Internalize the bitmap with the Halo 2 bitmap internalizer program(found in the utilities section. 2.) To see your skinned warthog without internalizing the bitmap, also FTP your shared.map after you have skinned in whatever map your skinning. Well I hope this helps you and good luck.
