I am trying to mod my halo 2 and for some reason when i try to load a map that is modded or in my case i have allied map pack 1.3, it doesnt tell me that i couldnt load the map it just goes black and then it takes me back to the screen where i can start the game or change options for the game.
i do not have the file $c in my e/tdata folder but i do have the $u folder. Another thing that i noticed is that when i follow ketchup bongs add maps to the main menu and i put the two behind the three files in the $u folder it causes my halo 2 to freeze at the press start to continue screen. I do not know if it has anything to do with me having the $c folder.

LMAO
Anyways, completely ignore the $c folder, put all your 9 new maps in the halo 2 maps folder when you add them to the main menu.

yeah ithink ketchup bong sounds a lot cooler than bomb but anyway when i put the nine new maps in the maps folder i thought that they would automaticly show up but they dont would i have to edit the mainmenu for those maps as well..

yes i did watch the entire tutorial but i thought that since they were the new official bungie maps that they would be there by default or something.
$c folder in the TDATA folder is where the nine new maps are are there other files in that folder except for the map.. i d/k like files to rewrite the mainmenu.map is.
I still need help with, like you suggested, deleting or ignoring the $u folder but if i do the game freezes and i can not play... also if i rename the files. i dint know but this is starting to really upset me....
I was also reading the forum about a halo 2 launcher and maybe that working..... havnt got it yet but i will try...

You're doing everything wrong. Im sorry, quit assuming. Dont say things like "well when I do this on my own without anyone telling me to, my game freezes" maybe because you did something you're not supposed to. Here is what I have and mine works fine:
>E:\Games\Halo 2\Maps<
Old Maps
9 New Maps
Mainmenu with 9 new maps added
>E:\TDATA\4d30054\<
Nothing.
(Im pretty sure its 4d30054, if not you get the idea anyways)
Thats all you need, nothing else is causing problems. Do not go deleting files, simply move them out of the TDATA folder incase you need to replace them. Move them whereever, it doesnt matter, as long as there arent files in the 4d30054 folder. Just do that, do not do anything else. If it still does not work, put clean maps on your xbox and test it first, then you know if its something on your xbox, or the patches on the maps. Do not say "the patches work" trust me, just put clean maps on if it doesnt work, and put a mainmenu with the 9 maps added, put the 9 maps in the maps folder, then try to start the game. Just do it.

alright i tried what you said to do and my game crashes when i get to the press start screen. as soon as i put the $u folder in there it works fine.
Side note i can delete everything halo 2 related off my xbox via dvd2xbox and manually going through and deleting anything that might be left over and burn halo 2 all fresh from the disc and try to play it and it freezes at the mainmenu at the same place... but again as soon as i put the folder $u i can play it no problem....
Sorry if this is making you angry... try and bare with me cuz i am getting really F***n stressed out been trying to figure this out for atleast five days.....

$c is the downloaded maps
$u is the autoupdate(s) bungie put out. I personally do not have the auto update. I found that when upgrading a harddrive, all my games would freeze at the times I would select a save, such as Pressing Start on H2 or pressing Load on Ninja Gaiden. I fixed this by clearing my cache. If you clear the cache and it still does it, it isnt the same problem, and I probably wont be able to help unless I know exactly what you're doing from start to finish. If you want more help, please message me on AIM, see sig below
