Photoshop/.dds/HMT prob (won't inject after save)

Ok, I'm a little stumped here. A .dds problem. First off, this is for Halo PC. I'm trying to inject some new flag skins (my first attempt at making my own). I save the file in .dds with photoshop as the 1 bit .dds but when I try to inject it with HMT3.5 it says that the file needs to be DXT1. Isn't it already? I've been using quaglino's photoshop PDF tutorial as a guide. The save process is similar, but not exactly the same so maybe something changed. Here are some screenies for you to look at. (they're in links because I run my monitor at pretty high res and want to be nice to you lazy people who don't want to scroll. You 56k'ers too.)

Here it is sitting in PS as a .bmp waiting to go to .dds.

File > Save As...

Save as a .dds to the desktop for easy finding (move them later when I'm done)

The options for saving a .dds file. You can see I chose 'DXT1 (1 bit Alpha)' and 'Generate MIP maps'

Here we are in the BG bitmaps section with HMT V3 (you can see I've applied a previous skin [not mine])

'Inject Texture' brings up this window. I select the .dds I just made.

Oh dear. the first error message. No biggie. I've gotten it before. I click 'Yes'.

Lastly, HERE's the problem. WTF!? Didn't I save it that way? What happened?

If you can help, it would really be appreciated. When I get them done I'll see if I can post them for everyone.

Ah. so THAT's what it is. My sincerest thanks. :D

I know sarcasm when I see it don't worry.

I realize that this is my first attempt at creating ANYTHING. Also my first time using Photoshop so I really don't know my way around. You'll notice though that I saved it as v1 meaning I'm just doing this so I can get the hang of it. I won't even think of posting anything untill It looks like a decent flag and not the pic I pulled off the net.

Oh, and any hints or tips for PSing would be greatly appreciated. I read through the tut's, but more ideas are always good.

Actually, I was thinking my second skin would be to turn the Health pack into a hamburger. (small humor for me here since I work at a fast food joint) Don't know if I'll post it though.

But I'll keep the Zelda cyborg in mind for you. Maybe as my third.

And the flags are coming along. I'm to V3 of the red one (haven't toutched blue yet) It's textured and worn, but the texturing goes out past the worn parts of the flag so I'll get rid of that in V4. Hopefully it'll look cool. And I realize now that I should have applied the texture BEFORE i cropped out the wear in the flag... but oh well. Live and learn. Least blue will be easier.

Sorry for the double post, but fitured I should instead of editing my last one since I'm adding a signifigant bit and it's been several days since my last post. I just wanted to say that I finished. Posted them here. If you're a Mobile Suit Gundam fan, you'll get a kick out of them. I realize that it's just a picture textured, cropped and injected, but I like them. And it took me something like 9 tries to get the red one 'just right'. and after I knew what I was doing, I did the blue one in an hour and most of that was cropping out the wear by hand (because it's the only way I know. better suggestions are always welcome).

Ho-hum. enjoy.
