ive softmodded my stock xbox, it has the regular 8-gig hd. i need a new harddrive, but i dont want to replace my current 1 since then i wont be able to use live.

is there a way to add on a second, external hdd to my box?

Why wouldn't you be able to use live?

i thought that if live detects an hdd with a different s/n than the one you registered for live with youll get banned

Just save your old Gamertag to a memory unit, then do the HD-transfer. Then, download the gamertag from your memory unit, to your new HD.

where is my gt located?

Go into the systems memory from the dashboard.

Then, plug the memory-unit into your controller.

Then open the systems memory, and go to the Xbox live category.

There, copy it from your memory, to the M-U.

...are u sure thatll work? but the data about the hdd is embedded in the live account, so if i replace the hdd the old data will still be on it, and ill get banned, wont i?

I saved my gamertag onto a memory-unit and bought a new xbox, it still worked.

..thats odd, it seems like it shouldnt, the s/n is EMBEDDED into the hdd, and they wouldnt make it THAT easy to get a new hd. this way you could also ilegally share gamertags and live accounts without paying, it seems like mikrosoft would do something about that..
