Maps on DVD?

Having halo2 installed on my xbox including many other files/apps takes up all of my remaining space. I was wondering, (yet doubt its possible), if there were some way to have the modded maps on a dvd-r disc so that they didn't have to be transfered to the maps folder in Halo2. Any help would be much appreciated.
